Shoren-in

Shoren-in is one of the five Monzeki temple of Kyoto, whose priests were from the Imperial family until the Meiji area. It was built in the late 13th century.

The garden of Shoren-in temple was created at the base of Mt. Awata. It were apparently originally designed by So-ami during the Muromachi era (1336~1573). Nowadays strong influences of the Edo period can be seen.

In the main part of the garden is a pond, "Ryujin no ike". There is a big stone locates in  the center of the pond. The shape of this stone looks like the back of dragon bathing in the pond.
